THERAPY

Dr. Vigil-Otero provides therapy and testing to children (ages 8 and older), adolescents and families for a variety of treatment issues ranging from adjustment difficulties to clinical depression and anxiety. When working with minors, Dr. Vigil’s approach utilizes a young person’s strengths and aims to enhance their resilience. Dr. Vigil’s treatment with minors is informed by cognitive-behavioral therapy and research on emotional intelligence. For younger children, she integrates play therapy and art to illustrate therapy concepts and keep the session fun and engaging. Patients often have homework or an “action plan” in between sessions in order to help therapeutic gains generalize into day-to-day life. When working with younger children, Dr. Vigil uses a team approach, where parents are involved in treatment to support and encourage gains.

There are times when treatment goals for a child are best addressed with separate parenting sessions when the child is not present. Dr. Vigil’s approach to parenting is informed by findings from the fields of behavioral modification, child development, emotion coaching and collaborative problem solving.

TESTING

Dr. Vigil also provides gifted testing to help with educational placements. At this time she does not have openings for psychological evaluations to assess ADHD and/or learning challenges.
